How VAC helps to change the world we live in
The world is changing –
How VAC helps to change the world we live in.
Hanau – Humanity has always wanted to become faster, better, safer or more efficient. For this reason, many technologies that were invented at a certain time are no longer in use today, or can just be found very occasionally. They were replaced by newer technologies that can do the job more efficiently. For almost 100 years now, VAC has been involved in the development of advanced technologies that influence all our lives, make them easier or offer us completely new possibilities. Even if VAC's contribution is not directly visible in most cases, we work every day to ensure that even the technologies that are already considered efficient and state-of-the-art today can be replaced by new, better technologies.
The world is changing and VAC is an essential part of this change. We would like to show you how VAC hast been influencing our daily lives over the last century and will continue to do so in the future.
Part 1: The way we support efficient movement of things -
From mechanic to electric
In 1795, the first hydro mechanical machine was developed. It used pressurized water for power transmission and offered people at that time previously unimagined possibilities for moving heavy objects and significantly reducing physical exertion. At the time, this invention was a technological breakthrough. Shortly after the beginning of the 20th century, people discovered that the transmission of forces could be realized even better using oil than water. Although oil had disadvantages in terms of flammability and environmental compatibility, the new technical possibilities were so promising that these risks were accepted and oil hydraulics gradually replaced water hydraulics.
o this day, we encounter hydraulic systems in numerous situations in our daily lives. The best-known hydraulic cylinders are probably found on large construction machines or on stationary or mobile lifting platforms. In these applications, hydraulic systems offer many advantages, as they can apply high forces immediately and maintain them for any period without the requirement of additional energy. Furthermore, in these applications there is sufficient space for components such as tanks, controls and filtration systems. However, hydraulics are also still used in many applications in machine tools, cars and aircraft. As issues such as small installation space, efficiency, controllability or maintenance requirements play a more important role here, electric drives have been gaining ground in these areas for years. Today, electromechanical drives can achieve energy savings of up to 90 % - and are thus environmentally compatible and efficient. Just 20 years ago, hydraulics and pneumatics were still considered the technologies for driving and moving machines. At that time, electric drives were only considered a lower-value alternative. This ranking is no longer tenable today.
The continuous increase in the efficiency of electric drives in conjunction with new technologies for energy storage is the decisive factor for the current success of e-mobility. It is one of the most important innovation driver and signpost for the future of the automobile as well as a buzzword in the metal and electrical industry. The electrification of almost all areas of our daily life continues to raise exciting and new questions, resulting in fascinating high-tech products. VAC has been supporting this trend since the very beginning with a wide variety of products - for industry, road traffic and racing – and now even for aviation. No matter in which of these areas you are looking for materials, permanent magnets or complete stator and rotor assemblies for the development of highly efficient electric motors or generators, VAC offers a comprehensive range of solutions for electric drives and supports the next change of how we can move things more efficiently.
